Oxfam Bookshop Herne Hill is more than just a place to pick up used books; it’s a staple in the Herne Hill community for thrift shopping that supports a good cause. As part of the well-known Oxfam chain, this store carries the charity’s reputation for quality secondhand goods and a commitment to ethical shopping. If you enjoy digging through racks of vintage clothing or browsing shelves stacked with novels, this spot has you covered.
Inside, you’ll find a steady stream of interesting used items. While the focus is on books, the collection often extends to vintage clothes, housewares, and even small pieces of furniture. The clothing selection tends to lean toward timeless styles, so it’s worth taking your time to browse and see what fits your style or home. It’s the kind of thrift store where you can plan to stay a little longer, flipping through paperbacks or checking out a classic jacket without feeling rushed.
Oxfam’s presence in Herne Hill means the proceeds go toward global poverty relief, which adds a layer of satisfaction to every purchase. It’s thrift shopping with a conscience. The volunteers here are friendly and knowledgeable about their stock, happy to chat about what’s new on the shelves or where to find specific genres or vintage pieces. For anyone who loves sustainable shopping in England, Oxfam Herne Hill offers a thoughtfully curated experience that goes beyond just the bargains.
Whether you’re after a good read, something vintage to wear, or unique housewares, Oxfam Herne Hill is definitely worth a visit on your next thrift outing. It’s one of those places where the collection changes often, so repeat trips usually come with fresh finds and a warm welcome.

Small store with very good selection of books. There are children's books, mystery, crime, fiction and even rare old books. Good prices: Picture books £1.99, crime fiction £2.99. A few new items. Friendly staff. Opening hours unfortunately only until 6pm.
Well stocked and good range of books. Rivals any high street bookshop!
Massively overpriced in comparison to other charity shop books. Insane actually. In some cases it would be cheaper to go to The Works and get a brand new book CHEAPER! Gave 3 stars because a good selection of books. Just OVERPRICED!
Donated a bunch of books, recent bestsellers etc all in perfect condition. But the staff member was so rude, she acted like it was a chore to have to accept the stock, huffing and puffing complaining about the amount of donations they've had. Made me feel bad for doing something nice.
Nice selection of books and buy something most weeks. But was just in the store and had some trouble with payment as I was using a new card, to which the staff member thought it would be appropriate to inform the entire and full shop that “this person has no money to buy these books with” which I found really quite embarrassing. This isn’t the first time I’ve noted issues with the staff here, who are typically of an older generation sharing somewhat questionable political views and uninformed statements, usually amongst themselves admittedly, but not in a discreet or private manner. Although a small perk of my weekend is looking for nice books from here I don’t think I feel terribly comfortable returning.
