The Good Samaritan Thrift Store is a classic spot for anyone who enjoys Modesto thrift shopping. Situated right in the heart of Modesto, this independent shop has a genuine local feel that sets it apart from the big chain stores. People come here not just to browse but to connect with the community through their shared love of secondhand treasures. It’s the kind of place where the selection changes often, so it’s worth dropping in regularly.
When you step inside, you’ll find a well-curated mix of used clothing, vintage pieces, furniture, and housewares. The clothing racks often hold a variety of styles, from casual everyday wear to some standout vintage finds, all sorted in a way that makes it easier to browse instead of feeling overwhelming. Beyond clothes, the furniture section is surprisingly solid, featuring both practical household items and quirky accent pieces that hint at the decades they came from. Books also make a nice appearance here, ranging from classics to recent bestsellers, perfect for anyone who loves a lazy afternoon flipping through pages.
What makes The Good Samaritan Thrift Store really worth mentioning for Modesto thrift shopping is how the shop feels like part of the neighborhood. The folks behind the counter are familiar with regulars and are genuinely happy to help you find something specific or just chat about the best finds lately. It’s not just about buying — it’s about being part of a secondhand community that’s careful with resources and curious about the stories behind each item. My new favorite thrift store in Modesto. Not only is it huge but they are one of the only thrift stores that still have fitting rooms open! They have everything! Plus tons of nice furniture. They have great discounts depending on the day you go. Thank you to the kind man that was working cash register, you made my day helping me re-price the dress that I fell in love with. It didn’t have a price and I was sad to let it go but this guy really went above and beyond. Also, look at the cutest drink container I found!
There are good items to find. It's somewhat organized, but it smells weird. Smells like a wet dog throughout the store, and it isn't pleasant. The employees were nice and helpful. 2025 update: not much has improved. There's still an odd smell throughout the store. The prices are all over the place and strange. There isn't consistency for the prices. A piece of fabric could cost $64.64
I usually come to this location to shop for clothes but this time around i was greeted with a very unfriendly employee, which I believe her name was Sam. when asking a simple question about pricing she responded with a attitude and rolled her eyes. I've also heard similar stories about this lady from other shoppers here. She didn't seem interested in helping at all. I hope management addresses this, as she could use some improving on customer service as it should involve basic respect. Me, my family, and my friends will no longer be coming to this location. Wish I could leave a 0 star.
I was there a week ago when chris the owner kick a friend of my out due to the fact that she wanted to buy socks and hats. She was a avid shopper at this location and never caused any issues. I always noticed the manager marking up prices. Once you got to the register and giving her people her and other customers a hard time. How is this fair? This looks bad on a place that has things donated to them. They don't have to buy it.The only thing that they buy is the food from the food food pantry, which the proceeds from the thrift store charity shop goes to. It's uncalled for absolutely disgraceful, and this is not christian behavior christian behaviour would be taking said adams and donating them to the homeless and not giving her no issues or not overcharging her giving her a bulk price. The owner should deal with the issue. Not the customers, if this was a big box store or a chain store, they would deal with the employee. And not run the customer off. Shame on this business. I will never be shopping here again. Ever and I will let my friends and family know. Not to either shop here again. Be blessed and have the day you deserve.
I went into this store hoping to grab a simple $2 game, but the employee refused to sell it to me just because it didn’t have a price tag. Instead of helping or offering a solution, the staff came across as rude and dismissive. On top of that, the store itself is dirty, messy, and completely unorganized—it’s hard to even shop comfortably in there. Definitely not a place I’d recommend, especially with the way the employees treat customers.
