About This Store

Buffalo Exchange Tempe

Buffalo Exchange Tempe is a solid stop for anyone diving into thrift shopping in Tempe. This location is part of a nationwide chain known for its curated selection of used clothing that blends vintage vibes with current trends. Unlike your typical thrift store, Buffalo Exchange Tempe is more selective, so shoppers usually find well-maintained pieces that stand out without feeling overdone. It’s not a huge warehouse of stuff—it’s more like a thoughtfully edited collection, which can make browsing feel more focused and rewarding.

At this Tempe thrift spot, the main draw is definitely the clothing. You’ll come across a range of styles, from classic vintage denim and band tees to more contemporary streetwear. The stock shifts frequently, so it’s worth popping in regularly if you’re hunting for something specific or just want to see what’s new. Beyond clothes, there’s sometimes a small mix of accessories, shoes, and even a few quirky housewares. It’s not a place where you’d expect to find furniture or books regularly, but every now and then, something interesting pops up.

What’s cool about Buffalo Exchange Tempe is the community vibe. The staff are usually friendly and knowledgeable about the items, which helps when you’re trying to figure out sizing or the story behind a vintage piece. Plus, they buy from locals, so the inventory reflects a real mix of personal styles and eras, making it a great spot for anyone interested in sustainable shopping or just getting something different from the usual fast fashion cycle.

If thrift shopping in Tempe is on your agenda, Buffalo Exchange Tempe should be one of your stops. It’s got a reputation for quality secondhand finds and a shopping experience that respects both the clothes and the people who wear them. You might leave with something you didn’t expect to find, but that quickly becomes a favorite.

No matter how many articles of clothing each employee was separating then determining to purchase or return to the customer. Both wonderful and interactive and always observant when new customers arrived, with a cheerful hello and quick joyful we will be with you soon. Not once did either ladies hesitate to answer the question I had or the woman being helped next to me. I was baffled when I read the negative comments from other customers, everyone if you start your experience with a new place by reviewing other customers negative reviews, just remember how many sides of the story there are! So look in your closet and drawers for items that you haven’t worn for way too long, and find out for yourself what a unique job they are doing by determining what items are going to resale. The articles of clothing I thought they would buy didn’t stand a chance, and the other ones I said no way they would want them they purchased them. Please remember they determine the price NOT YOU! That will eliminate a lot of frustration. And negativity all around. So I will say THANK YOU FOR THE EXCELLENT WORK YOU DID. P.S you still can’t have my Marlboro bag 🙃

After not having any luck selling some clothes and bags online, I decided to see if Buffalo Exchange would take anything, and they did! I had three large reusable bags with shirts, purses, backpacks and wallets. Most of the items all had tags on them. They ended up taking most of my items. I went first thing on a Sunday morning. Online check-In was easy, and my items were checked out within a minute of checking in. The girls working in the store were very nice. The whole process was a lot nicer and easier than uptown cheapskate which took forever to go through my things and didn't take anything. I'll definitely be back to this Buffalo Exchange location.

i think the main manager of this place is a kid and the staff is very nice so i don't want to be too harsh, but a lot of the floor selection is in appauling condition considering the standards they state while buying. they have a clearance room in the back that's mostly empty - i would challenge the team here to comb the fast fashion trash out of the main area and put it all in there. this would allow people to get a good deal and reuse these fash fashion pieces and it would make room on the floor for good quality pieces. i brought in a small bag of great quality items that are in style and seasonally appropriate. i even brought in a designer bag that's in really good condition. they ended up taking a couple of the 'cheaper' items i had but nitpicking issues with the other items. no worries, i don't feel entitled to sell anything here. i actually ended up taking the same bag to the buffalo exchange in phoenix and they bougth the whole bag (excluding 2 piece). my main confusion comes when i start shopping the floor. tons of poor quality, ripped (not in a stylish way) and stained items. saw a lot of fast fashion like shein, which is fine, even plastic garbage deserves a second life, but the prices on these items were wildly high (probably more than if you'd buy directly from shein). i found a handful of items to try on and in the process i found holes in 2 items and stains on almost all of them.

Did the online waitlist on a Monday afternoon usually these are slower days for thrift and still waited an hour before I was supposed to be called up. I was in my car outside when they called my name/texted me, immediately went inside and by the time I got in they already took another person ahead of me even though I was just outside. They took ANOTHER person on top of that and I had to wait an additional 20-30 minutes. The associate who bought my items was very sweet and kind, but skipping me to fit in more people even though I was right there was frustrating.

DON’T take your stuff here to sell! Went to try and sell a couple items and there were a few people in line ahead of me. The worker who put my name on the wait list SPECIFICALLY told me that I did not have to wait inside the store since there was “quite a wait”, they took my phone number down and said they would text me when it was my turn. I went across the street to get some food really quick, once again the worker told me in explicit words that I did NOT have to wait inside the store and that I was free to go look at other things in the area while I waited. I got the text that it was my turn while I was checking out at Whole Foods (literally right across the street) and made it back inside the store within less than 5 minutes of receiving the text message. The worker then tells me I was “passed over” and that I was now at the bottom of the wait list again. Absolutely ridiculous, why would you tell people they’re free to leave the store if you’re going to skip over them so quickly? Once again, I was back inside within FIVE MINUTES. Every time I’ve sold something here, they lowball me anyways. Don’t waste your time and go to Plato’s Closet!
