San Diego thrift store experience at The Salvation Army

Shopping here feels different because it’s more than just a store—it’s a local hub where donations from neighbors create a constantly changing inventory. It’s common to spot well-kept books, quirky kitchenware, and sometimes even unique décor items that aren’t typically found in chain thrift shops. Beyond clothing and home goods, there’s often furniture that ranges from practical basics to more distinctive pieces with character, perfect for someone putting together a budget-friendly living space. Best thrift store in San Diego. Lots of selection (except not many books). Great prices. Super friendly workers. Not much parking and the lot could use a repaving for safety.

JunkMD frequents Salvation Army on Sports Arena Blvd to make donations for our customers. One thing that really sticks out to us is how friendly all the employees are. We donate a lot of furniture from jobs and the staff is always accommodating and friendly. Parking is tight, unfortunately, but all in all a good experience

I have gone to the store many times and have many great experiences with the staff until last Thursday when one of the employees was so rude to me. He was very unprofessional and passive aggressive. I asked a few questions regarding the shoe department. He replied in a rude way so I asked if he was okay and he told me that he’s there to work and not to talk to anyone. He made me so uncomfortable that I left that section of the store.

This location is disgusting and unsafe! The do nothing to keep it clean or keep the homeless away. I just left and there was a group building a tent in one side in the lot, another nodding off while blocking the path to a woman's car, and another in the store tweaking out and filling a basket with random items. I brought up the tent to the security guard and he just shrugged and nodded his head. It consistently smells like urine out front because the homeless congregate out front after hours. The parking lot is full of needle caps and trash. The sidewalk is covered in drugged fueled writings. And again, it's not being cleaned. The management of this Location / Region should be ashamed! They charge internet prices for merchandise they receive for free. The least they could do would be to spray the pee off the sidewalk! I understand that they are a "Salvation" for the homeless, but letting them do drugs and dedicate on your door step is not helping them. And it's unsafe.
