Oxfam Edinburgh is a spot worth checking out if you enjoy thrift shopping, especially for books and vintage finds. This well-established Oxfam location follows the chain’s mission of supporting charitable causes, making every purchase feel like a small win for the community. While Oxfam is often associated with its wide range of used clothing and household items, the Edinburgh bookshop stands out for its impressive selection of secondhand books alongside other thrift store staples.
The store offers more than just books, though. You’ll find racks of used clothing ranging from everyday basics to vintage pieces that hint at the styles of past decades. Furniture and housewares also pop up regularly, though the focus here tends to lean toward smaller, easy-to-carry items rather than bulky pieces. If you’re into vintage or secondhand home decor, it’s worth popping in now and then to see what’s arrived.
Oxfam Edinburgh feels like a community-driven spot where the inventory changes often, making it an interesting place to return to. The vibe is relaxed and welcoming, which fits well with the laid-back culture of thrift shopping in Edinburgh. With the added bonus that your money supports good causes, it’s a satisfying stop for anyone looking to shop sustainably while enjoying a mix of books, clothing, and vintage goods. This location really brings the best of Oxfam’s thrift store model to one place, making it a reliable choice in Edinburgh’s secondhand scene.

Popped in on my final day visiting Edinburgh and spent ages crouched down on the floor browsing a collection of Pictorial Educations, before finally selecting a stunning December 1929 edition. I completely fell in love with it, got back home to East Sussex and couldn’t stop thinking about the rest of the collection, so I phoned up to see if there was any way to purchase what was left. Lo and behold, there they were on my doorstep 2 days later! The staff were incredibly helpful and went out of their way to assist me, and I’m now a proud owner of 15 beautiful editions. Thanks team!
I had the pleasure of dropping in to this lovely Oxfam shop this past week when I was on a flying return visit to Edinburgh. I needed to find a place where I could donate many boxes of much loved books and DVDs that I had collected over my 25 years in Edinburgh and the staff here were so welcoming, friendly and helpful. I am particularly grateful to them for their kind assistance during what proved to be a very hard week of shifting so many heavy boxes, wanting my belongings to go to good homes and benefit Oxfam. They are lovely people there doing good, and the shop is charming, with a great selection of lovely things to own or buy as gifts. I can recommend them wholeheartedly.
Very cute and unique gift items and souvenirs! I love that it all goes to charity as well. It's a nice walk from the botanical gardens if you want somewhere to meander after that (and a lot cheaper than the garden's gift shop)
Pleasant charity bookshop in an area with several of them - original or second-hand. Good variety of books and nice staff, however, I was sorry to find I could have bought two books and get one book for free after leaving the shop. I only bought two, sadly. The lady behind the counter was very nice, yet she did not inform me of this "special offer".
Awesome charity book shop where you can find all kind of books. Some books were very good like brand new at very reasonable prices. I got one for my train journey back to London.
