Understanding Store Hours and Open Status

Every store on UrbanThrifter shows whether it’s currently open or closed. Here’s how it works and how to use it when planning your crawl.

Real-Time Status
The green “Open” and red “Closed” badges you see on store cards and listings are calculated in real time based on the store’s actual business hours and its local timezone. If you’re browsing stores in Phoenix from New York, the status reflects Phoenix time — not yours.

Where the Hours Come From
Store hours are pulled from Google Places data and kept in sync. When a store updates their hours on Google, those changes flow into UrbanThrifter automatically during our regular sync cycles.

Timezone Awareness
This matters more than you’d think. A store in Los Angeles that closes at 6pm Pacific would show as closed at 9pm Eastern if we used your browser’s time. We don’t do that. Every store’s hours are checked against the store’s own timezone, so the status is always accurate regardless of where you’re viewing from.

Planning Around Hours
When building a crawl, check the hours for each store on your route. Put the stores that open earliest at the top of your list and save the ones with later hours for the end. The store detail page shows the full weekly schedule with today’s hours highlighted.

Something Look Wrong?
If a store’s hours seem off, it usually means the business hasn’t updated their Google listing. We sync regularly, but some stores are better at keeping their info current than others. You can always call ahead if you’re making a special trip.
