The Balcones store in Austin is the kind of thrift store where you can dig through racks of used clothing that range from everyday basics to some surprising vintage pieces. It’s not just about clothes here, though. You’ll also find furniture that’s perfect for a budget-friendly home refresh, alongside housewares that can add character to your kitchen or living space without breaking the bank. Books, toys, and sometimes collectibles show up too, making it a well-rounded stop for secondhand shoppers. Because it’s a Goodwill, the turnover is pretty steady, so if you visit often, you’re likely to spot new inventory each time.
What stands out about the Austin Goodwill Stores, especially the Balcones location, is that it’s more than just a place to grab used goods. The chain’s focus on community impact means your thrift shopping helps fund local job training and education programs. That adds a feel-good layer to the experience. Plus, the store tends to be clean and organized, which isn’t always the case with thrift. All in all, if you’re in Austin and want to explore a Goodwill with a broad selection of secondhand items, this store is worth a visit. It’s a dependable option for finding vintage outfits, affordable furniture, or just browsing through some unexpected finds.

Hidden gem of a store!!! Really helpful and nice staff. Hit this Goodwill before you go to others!!!!
A bit limited with merchandise maybe due to the fact that they can't accept large items at the moment but still found great things for the home.
Goodwill used to be one of my favorite places to go thrifting, especially with my daughter. It was affordable, fun, and felt like a small adventure where you could find something special without spending much money. Lately, the prices have become ridiculous. Items that are donated for free are now marked at prices that rival or exceed retail, and it completely takes the joy out of thrifting. I honestly do not know who is setting the prices, but whatever system is being used is not working. Goodwill was once a place people could rely on, especially families and those trying to stretch a budget. Now it feels disconnected from the very purpose it was meant to serve. I still believe in the mission, but the pricing has made it hard to justify shopping here anymore, which is really disappointing.
Goodwill used to be one of my favorite places to go thrifting. It was affordable, fun, and felt like a small adventure where you could find something special without spending much money. Plus looks like the items donated at this location they are not sold at this location anymore. Everything is so old and pricey, used to be less but better clothes and stuff before. Not my choice of store to thrift anymore, so sad. And the people working here after the recent remodel are so rude, do not respond to questions and just stand there like you are not talking to them or they don't want to work there.
First of all the name of your store is Goodwill. I found that ironic today. I have lived in Austin and shopped at same Goodwill for around 25 years. My family and I have spent approximately $10,000 in those 25 years, no Texan exaggeration there. Today, since it was seniors day and I’m in a place right now where I’m living pay check to paycheck, I actually borrowed $20.00 from my son so I could go to your store. We are having to live pay check to paycheck, right now, because I had to retire from nursing early due to my back. I wanted to purchase some outdoor, whisker furniture today at your store. I did not have enough cash and y’all would not take a credit card payment over the phone. My daughter could not get away from work to run up and pay. I offered to go to her house and get it but she would not let me because of my back. I had $20.00 with me and asked if I could use that as a down payment and was told no. Everyone I dealt with at your store was kind and just kept saying their hands were tied. There is this thing called goodwill and kindness that I believe should have been exercised. I have been a weekly loyal customer 4 ev er!!! I believe in rules and regulations and I also believe individual situations should be considered in certain circumstances. Not taking the $20.00 bill to hold it for 8 hours till my daughter could get there is just wrong. Y’all have raised your prices above what inflation calls for. Used candles for $7.49, balled up shirts for $7.99 etc. I would much appreciate a response to this but no talk about a rule is a rule, I’ve heard that enough for one day. Sincerely Carol McManus
